Upcoming Book-to-Movie Adaptations

A quick search on the web would prove to you that book to movie adaptations are THE SHIT these days.

Here are a few coming either this year or next that I’m especially excited about. (The title link is towards the book on Goodreads)

giverThe Giver (August 2014)

The Giver is the 1st book in a quartet written by Lois Lowry and is considered a classic for the youths. The movie stars an impressive number of well known actors like Alexander Skarsgard, Meryl Streep, Katie Holmes, Jeff Bridges and Taylor Swift, with somewhat newcomer Brenton Thwaites playing the lead role of Jonas.

If-I-Stay-coverIf I Stay  (August 2014)

If I stay is the 1st book in a contemporary YA dualogy written by Gayle Forman. The movie stars Chloe Grace Moretz in the lead role.

6186357The Maze Runner  (September 2014)

The Maze Runner is the 1st book in a YA dystopian trilogy written by James Dashner. The movie stars Dylan O’brien and Will Poulter.

19288043Gone Girl (October 2014)

Gone Girl is a stand alone thriller/suspense written by Gillian Flynn, one of my favorite author. I DON’T like the casting of Ben Affleck in the lead role but Rosamund Pike as Amy is quite fitting. The fact that her novels always have a huge twist at the end is probably going to make a very suspenseful movie.

horns-usHorns (October 2014)

Horns is a horror novel written by Joe Hill (Stephen King’s son). I was first interested in this movie way before it was actually filmed because it stars Daniel Radcliffe. It was presented in the Toronto Film Festival in 2013 so it’s been ready for release for a loooong time and the official date on IMDB is October of this year. I hope it’s true because I can’t wait to see this movie.

MV5BMTA2OTM5MjQ0OTZeQTJeQWpwZ15BbWU4MDg3MzcyMDEx._V1_SX214_AL_MockingJay (November 2014)

MockingJay is the 3rd book in the Hunger Games trilogy written by Suzanne Collins (but I don’t think I need to tell you that at this point) and this movie is the 1st half of the book. It stars the usual (lol, Jennifer Lawrence, etc. etc.)

9460487Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children  (2015)

This is the first book in a YA (dualogy? trilogy? not sure) written by Ransom Riggs. The movie is still in development but Tim Burton was announced to be director and I couldn’t be more excited.

6487308Fallen (2015)

Fallen is the 1st book in a YA supernaltural series written by Lauren Kate who deals with angels in our human world. I haven’t read these books and they didn’t get very good reviews of people calling it a wanna-be Twilight, but I’m still interested to know more about the story. It stars Addison Timlin and Jeremy Irvine.

764347Unwind (2015)

Unwind is the 1st book in a YA dystopian series written by Neal Shusterman and the books sounds amazing. They have great reviews and I have a great interest in them. The movie is still in development but I’ll definitely be looking out for it!

16101128The 5th Wave (2015)

The 5th Wave is the 1st book in a YA Fantasy/sci-fi series written by Rick Yancey. I haven’t read it but I heard great things and the movie also stars Chloe Grace Moretz.

5886881Dark Places (September 2014?)

Dark Places is yet another thriller/suspense novel written by Gillian Flynn and the movie stars Charlize Theron and… Chloe Grace Moretz! (yeah she’s definitely everywhere). The question mark is because according to IMDB it is set to come out in september (before Gone Girl) but the trailer isn’t even out yet so I think they have it wrong. But even if it’s pushed back to 2015, it’s still one of the movies I’m most excited to see!

What are the book to movie adaptations you are most excited to see in the coming years? Comment and let me know!

Happy Reading (or watching!) 🙂
